If you have ever done any kind of bass fishing, you probably have heard of these two types of rigging for your worms. These 2 ways have been around for a long time span, and each of them have caught some very large fish. Overall, worm fishing might be the single best method to land the really big bass. It has to do with the life like action that a worm mimics in the water, and coupled with a soft body, the worm just seems more like real food to a largemouth bass. But let me just tell you about these 2 distinct types of worm rigging.
The Texas rig is the simpler of the two. It is only comprised of a cone shaped weight, hook, and worm. Put the cone shaped weight on the line first, tie your hook off, then put your worm on the hook, and you are ready to go. The Texas rig is very tightly fit, and works very well when you are fishing deep vegetation, where so often bass hang out.
Now, the Carolina rig is a little more complex. It utilizes a worm, bead, barrel swivel, hook, leader line, and weight. Put the weight on first thing, then the bead, tie on the barrel swivel, put on a leader line, tie on your hook, then place your worm on the hook, and you are prepared to Carolina rig fish. Because the weight is disjointed from the worm, when the bait is presented to the fish, it looks more authentic, and thus may yield more hits. But you have to check it out however, because the Carolina rig is tougher to work the cover areas, and thus when you are Carolina rig fishing, you might not be able to place the bait as close to the fish, which means fewer fish.
